The purpose of requiring standardized photographs with each application is to allow the BCOA Board and membership to evaluate your native stock submission prior to voting. In addition, these photographs become a permanent part of the AKC studbook record when submitted stock is approved for registration. While it is in the best interest of the Club to have clear, concise photographs displaying standardized views, the AKC also requires it.
1. Three (3) professionally printed photographs in color on glossy photo paper.
2. Photos printed on home or office printers are not acceptable.
3. Size: 8" x 10" (20.3cm x 25.4cm).
4. One picture each: full on front, full right side and full left side. Each picture MUST show full body length and height, i.e. tip of nose to point of buttocks, bottom of feet to tip of ears.
5. If your native stock applicant has sired/whelped a litter, One 8 x 10 either full on front, full right side and/or full left side of all offspring must also be included with the application..
6. Additional photos allowed: Up to 4 additional photos, i.e. can be moving shots or any shots you want to send in addition to the 3 required photos and an optional short video of the dog. The video will only appear on the BCOA website.
1. Do not cut off any part of the body, including ear tips, toenails, or portions of the tail.
2. If posed or stacked photos are used, at least one of the photos must have the tail natural, without the handler holding it down.
3. The dog can be on any surface but at least one of the photos must show the feet clearly so that quality of feet and color markings can be seen. A dog standing on a hard surface will clearly show proportions, feet quality and markings.
4. Remember this is primarily a photo of the dog so have photos of the entire dog with a small amount of background which means it is not to be a large print with a tiny dog in it. The dog should fill about 75% of the space in the photo. In taking the photo or if the photo is cropped, leave a minimum of one-inch in the 8" x 10" print size (2.5 cm) around the dog – in front of the nose, under the feet, beyond the rear of the dog and above its ears, etc.
5. Photos of the dog moving are not acceptable or desired at this time.
6.. Photos may be taken indoors or outdoors.
7. Do not have any objects that block a full view of the dog.
1. The above three professionally printed photo prints are required. However, if you are using a digital camera you should follow these guidelines.
2. Set digital camera at highest resolution possible.
3. If you want these files used for print reproduction, the photos must be high quality color digital files. That means at minimum of 300dpi at 8 x 10 (20.3cm x 25.4cm).
4. JPEG or TIFF formats accepted.
5. Do not manipulate or alter the image in any software. Send original file from your camera.
6. Digital images are useful for the Committee but cannot replace the professionally printed, glossy prints.
1. An attractive, non-distracting setting or background will help your dog look good for prosperity.
2. Sharp, clear pictures with good contrast reproduce better in print media.
1. You are unsure if size or quality of the digital images you have are acceptable.
2. You have questions as to suitability of the views of the dogs you have obtained.
3. You can send your photos electronically to Pam before your final submission to be sure they are adequate. This may save yourself time and frustration with your application.
3. If using digital photos just to verify photo approval files need not be more then about 1 mb.
4. We have not answered any question you might have.
This photo covers all necessary points of submission: hard surface to show quality and color of feet, stacked, natural tail carriage, at least one inch spacing around all parts of the subject, non distracting background, subject is focal point of picture. (Avongara Elly) |
This photo would be deemed unacceptable due to it being black and white, having a pup blocking a clear view of the subject, quality of image is blurry, and the rear feet are cropped off. (Kiki of Cryon) |
Though not stacked as well as above, this photo would be acceptable as long as one of the other photos submitted showed all four feet clearly (Avongara N'Gondi) |
Another acceptable photo, though the soft sand makes his feet appear more splayed then they might actually be. (Avongara Nabodio) |
This would be an acceptable photo if the front feet were not cut off leaving less than the required one inch border around all parts of the subject. Photographers must pay close attention to location of ears, toes and tails of their subject to ensure that each 8 x 10 print has one inch spacing around all parts of the dog. (Avongara K'Posi) |
While the feet are not clear, we do have the required one inch border therefore this would be an acceptable submission as long as one of the other photographs submitted clearly showed his feet. (Avongara Renzi) |
This photo is not acceptable for the following reasons: the subject is not the focal point, being less than 75% total of the whole picture and the subject is moving while all submissions must be of subjects stacked or standing naturally |
