Comments: Addie is very loving and affectionate with us, although a
little shy with strangers for the first few minutes. She often
prefers to stay indoors with us than romp outside with the rest of
the gang. She is just as content alone as she is running with the group.
It is my impression that Addie's lovely teeth came in a little
sooner than our other pops' did. With no empirical data, that is just
the impression I had. She did react to puppy inoculations, and is the
only pup of ours who has growled at the vet during an ear exam. She
also holds the distinction of being the only one of my brood who
offered to grip my wrist with her teeth when I did her nails. Addie
likes water. Not only was her first bath uneventful, but on
exceptionally warm days she will run through the sprinkler to cool
off. Conversely, she hates the cold more than the others do (if that
is possible).
She is more wary than the others. The group runs to
investigate when there is a strange noise in the yard, but Addie runs
behind a tree and watches them. Addie likes to "garoo, baroo and
arrghh" softly when she is happy or when it is time for dinner.
She is, to my knowledge, the first of the Avongara dogs to
have thyroid problems. She requires daily thyroid medication and will
not be bred. Addie is allergice to wheat and may react to corn if it
is not in very small doses. She has become sociable and remembers
people from visit to visit. She is quite skittish about noises and
large outdoor areas. For this reason, she was not a good obedience candidate.
