Comments: "Mosika" was
found in the remote hunting village of
Bokele, DRC, about 7km inland from the Maringa River. He is a plainly
marked chestnut red dog, with four white feet, white chest, and just a
few white hairs on the tip of his tail. His overall appearance is that
of a sturdy hunter. Deep brisket an spring of rib cage
provides
for tremendous respiratory and cardiovascular perfomance. A slightly
crested neck flows nicely into his withers and shoulders. He has good
shoulder layback and front angulations, with elbows set under his
chest. Length of forearm and strength in pasterns is still developing.
Length of body is slightly longer than height. Tail set is
fair,
with a good tail curl. Rear is well muscled and moderately angulated
with good length of second thigh. A nice tuck up is followed by
moderately bent stifles. Feet are small and reasonabley compact with
good arch of toe. Solid muscle tone give him an atheltic build.
Headpiece is nicely chiseled, with an absent of cheekiness. Muzzle is
cushioned and shorter than the back skull. Back skull is flat and has
good width. Ears have a nice shape and are adquately set with a slight
hooding. He has moderate wrinkle. His eye shape, set and mascara are
the crown jewels of the headpiece.
Vocal patters are decisevely Basenji. Mosika does not bark, yet is very
vocal. When excited, he yodel joyfully. Fire trucks and sirens are
greeted with a round of howling, and regrettably, he has blood-curdling
scream he exhibits when he is unhappy or being retrained from chasing
game.
Playful, he often poses in the signature Basenji bow and loves to race
about the house. Mosika possesses fantastic temperament with people. he
is aloof with new people and objects, as can be expected with a
Basenji; however once he has an opportunity to check out and dismiss
any possible threat, his demanor quickly changes to a tail wagging
frenzy. He can pushy with other dogs, especially other male Basenjis.
Always game for a hunt, he shows great prowess, agility and speeed. He
demonstrates a tenacity and intellingence that exceeds most of our
domestic Basenjis.
